How long has Orwashers been around?
Orwashers is one of the longest‐standing bread bakeries in NYC. The company was founded in 1916 and is going strong today.
Do you make any gluten‐free breads?
We don’t currently make and gluten‐free breads. However we do carry the city’s premiere gluten free bread, Free Bread.
Are your breads Kosher?
Our Breads are Kosher Parve and under Tablet K Supervision.
Do you source your ingredients locally?
To the absolute extent possible, yes. Some examples of our local ingredients include:
- Yeast starters from the grapes grown by Channing Daughters Winery on Long Island
- Flour from North Country Farms and Farmer Ground Flour, both located in upstate NY
- Otis Oatmeal Stout (for our Craft Ale Bread) from Sixpoint Brewery in Red Hook, Brooklyn
- Fruit preserves for our jelly doughnuts from Beth’s Farm, based in Columbia, NY
Do you donate gift certificates or product to local organizations/schools?
We support many deserving schools and organizations across NYC through the donation of product and gift certificates. To request a donation, please write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where can I find your breads outside of your retail locations?
Many of our breads can be be found at a variety of restaurants and retailers across NYC. Some highlights include Zabars, Citarella, Gourmet Garage, Graces, Whole Foods, Gramercy Tavern, Narcissa and Mile End. We also participate in many weekly farmers markets in the NYC area, including Park Slope (BK), Larchmont and Pleasantville (Westchester). Please visit our locations for more information.
Do you ship your products to customers outside of NYC?
We are currently developing our online bakery, through which we will offer nationwide shipping of select Orwashers products. Please check back soon...
